Traditions Battle

So I get it, there are somethings about weddings that people automatically gravitate to because its what we all wanted as a little girl. You want the perfect dress, the great guy as your groom, awesome flowers, the whole 9 yards.... But now in the new age of change and acceptance, all things don't have to be followed bu traditions.

Last night my Mom and I had a discussion about things for the wedding. Now some know that I am a tomboy through and through and the idea of me being a Princess Bride has not always been in my head but with everything coming together the way it is, I admit I enjoy being a girl for stuff like this. So here is the dilemma, My Mom wants alot of traditional things while I am OK with however the day flows because in the end, I will be Mrs. Jasmine Cameron.

I should start out by saying that I did compromise with her on 2 traditions, Scott and I will jump the broom and we will light the Unity Candle because she asked so we said OK. I think that compromise is good but now here is our issues

The first thing was the Cake Topper. Now when I think of a cake topper for our wedding, here are some that I thought of:

She wants Scott and I to have a cake topper.. and not just any Cake Topper... People Cake Topper.

This is the EXACT one that she choose... Not a fan of it at all.

The next thing was the garter toss. Scott is not a big fan of going under my dress in front of everyone to pull off a garter. I want him to be comfortable so that makes sense to me. I can still wear one for the day but she is all up in arms about it getting done, so I have found some alternatives..

1. Anniversary Dance: Have all your guest out on the dance floor dance and pick a couple (Years together) and who ever wins get the garter

2. Key Return : A funny joke in which guest are given keys to return to the Bride and Groom as a symbolic way to say good bye to Single Life.

Right now, the battle will continue on and I hope that there can be some kind of compromise. I dont want to spend the rest of my wedding planning experience worried about gaters, cake toppers or dueling it out with my Mom.

Anyone else has/had this issue?? What am I to do?
