Celebrity Wedding Vows: How The Stars Say 'I Do'

For celebrity brides and grooms, there's more than one way to say "I do."

From political statements to promises of banana milkshakes, stars like to get creative with their matrimonial vows.

We found seven celebrity couples who kept their wedding ceremonies unique and personal with quirky, romantic declarations of love.

Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman

During their backyard wedding in 2012, Drew Barrymore and art consultant Will Kopelman recited traditional Jewish vows, while a few of their friends and family performed additional readings. Kopelman's sister read a passage from "The Velveteen Rabbit," and Cameron Diaz recited the e.e. cumming's poem "I carry your heart with me."

Jewel and Ty Murray

Jewel and rodeo star Ty Murray eloped in the Bahamas in 2008, and just two guests heard their handwritten vows. Jewel told People that she "said that I'll try to make our lives the best piece of art I've ever done."

George Takei and Brad Altman

"Star Trek" actor George Takei wed his longtime partner, film producer Brad Altman, in front of L.A.'s Japanese American National Museum in 2008. They each wrote their own vows. Altman told Takei, "Now the California Supreme Court says our Golden State has marriage equality. Beginning today, a dream comes true for me.I can add "my husband" to the list of things I call you." Takei responded, "As we bind our love with this wedding ceremony, in this forum of democracy, in this September of my life, I vow to care for you as you've cared for me, cherish you with all my heart, and love you as my husband and the only man in my life. I love you very much."

Prince William and Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton kept their vows very traditional at their 2011 wedding. The Archbishop of Canterbury led the couple in vows such as, "Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?" He ended the ceremony with, "God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favour look upon you; and so fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace, that ye may so live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen."

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves

What did Matthew McConaughey say to model Camilla Alves during their wedding at their Texas estate in 2012? No one knows! According to Us Weekly, the couple whispered their vows into each others' ears, so not even their guests heard what they said. "You could tell it was emotional because she was teary-eyed," said an unnamed source.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minillo

Nick Lachey married Vanessa Minnillo in the British Virgin Islands in 2011. During the ceremony (which was televised), Lachey told Minnillo, "I am blessed and honored to take you as my wife. You are the answer to my every question ... I can't promise you I will be a perfect husband, but I can promise you that I will always strive to be. I love you." Minnillo responded, "You are the most generous person I've ever met, especially with your feelings and your love ... I am committed to you always and forever as your friend and as your loving wife. I love you."

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt tied the knot in Malibu in 2000, and recited marriage vows they had written themselves. Pitt vowed to "split the difference on the thermostat," and Aniston promised to always make his "favorite banana milk shake." When it was time for the couple to recite vows in unison, Aniston missed her cue to speak and exclaimed, "I've never done this before!" The ceremony ended on a traditional note as the newlyweds recited, "With this ring, I thee wed, so that all the world may know my love for you." Aniston and Pitt divorced in 2005.
