7 Small Things Happy Couples Remember to Do Every Day

So much in life is about the little things, isn't it? The smell of fresh coffee. A cardinal on the bird feeder. The first crocus in spring.

Most of us assume that our greatest happiness comes from life's big events, like landing our dream job, getting married, or giving birth to a child. While these extraordinary moments create a brief spike in happiness, current research confirms that sustained happiness is derived from life's ordinary, everyday stuff.

You know, the little things that we do for each other that make life feel good. A soft squeeze on the arm when we're worried. A trip out in the rain to pick us up at the bus. A gracious offer to go right ahead and eat that last bite of cake.

As couples, we can easily get caught up in life's endless demands and forget that we aren't running a business together, that life isn't all about tasks and results and who's doing what, when.

Given all our distractions and pressures, it's no wonder we lose sight of the need for small, loving gestures that, in fact, carry great meaning.

It's been said that, in the end, the little things are actually the big things, though we don't realize it at the time.

I say don't wait to discover what's truly important. Even if you're facing big difficulties in your marriage, these small caring gestures may give your relationship a surprising boost.

1. Be here now.
Quality attention. For me it's better than flowers or a candlelight dinner and I bet I'm not alone. Couples often complain that their days are so over-scheduled that their attention gets pulled from one thing to the next. The last thing they want is to talk to a partner whose nose is in his cell phone.
Think you can multi-task? Think again.
2014-06-04-bigstockHoldOn14971691.jpg
Why not shut down your phone, turn off your TV and walk away from the computer. Tell the kids that, for a least a few minutes, the two of you are off duty.

Face each other. Make eye contact. Be fully there.

If you spend more than fifteen minutes a day giving each other your undivided attention, talking about something other than kids or logistics, you're a rare exception.

2. Drop everything.
No matter how busy, frazzled, or tired we are, we all have thirty seconds to connect with each other when we walk through the door at the end of the day.

A simple Honey, I'm home, followed by a smile or a hug proves that there really is no place like home.

3. Go the extra mile.
Most of the time, going the extra mile requires little more than going a few steps out of your way.
Whether you fold that one last basket of wash, make your spouse a cup of tea, place a gentle hand on her shoulder, or make a late night run to the grocery store to get milk, these small (and even medium-sized) favors we do communicate love and affection and say, I'm happy to help.

4. Express appreciation.
No gesture is too small or mundane to warrant a sincere word of thanks. You don't have to hire a brass band or put up a billboard. A simple thank you is enough to brighten anyone's day.

Feeling creative? Leave a love note on her windshield. Say nice things about him to others -- and make sure he overhears it.

Beyond saying thanks, acknowledge each others' patience or kindness or willingness to take risks. Sometimes it's extra sweet to be complimented for who we are, not just what we do.

5. Say yes.
Too often (and too quickly) many of us tend to say No. Whether it's a request to clean out the garage, take a hike, or make love, why not pause and ask yourself, Why not say, yes?

Not perfect timing? Not your first choice? Unless the answer really has to be no, watch good things happen when you surprise your spouse with a yes.

6. Check in.
At my daughter-in-law's wedding shower, she asked each of her newly married friends to give her one piece of advice. More than one of them said take a moment to call. Not just when you're running late, though especially then! And definitely more often than you would normally do.

Whether it's a brief phone call or a text message or two minutes of IM, it always feels good to touch base and say, hi.

7. Pucker up.
2014-06-05-bigstockAfricanAmericanwomankissing31811438.jpg
When was the last time you gave your spouse more than a drive-by kiss as you were dashing out the door? Are we really too busy to stop and do it once more with feeling?

Try a full six-second kiss. Yes, count it out on your fingers. The difference is... well, you'll see.

While you're at it, a goodnight kiss with the same enthusiasm is a sweet addition.

What better way to begin and end every day?

Now it's your turn: What are your favorite ways to let your partner know that you care?

Coffee Talk

So I was thinking about what should be my Coffee Talk this morning in the car on the way to work and a crazy lady cut me off and threw my thoughts elsewhere... Which brings me to my topic: Driving

What age did you get your license and how did you feel:

I was 18 because I could not afford to go to drivers training so I waited till I was 18 and didn't need it. I was all juiced and drove everywhere I could... Probably why I have a driving complex now (The wheel is in my control)

Did you like your 1st Drivers License Picture:

I actually just gave up my picture recently and it made me a little sad. I wont say it is the best picture in the world but by comparison, it is what it is. I still have it in my wallet.

Speaking of Photos.. How do you like your current one?

Well, It is not the best picture in the world of me... I was not at all prepared. Between my hair in the tomboy ponytail and my super dry lip that was cracked from the winter wind.... I was a H.A.M (Hot Ass Mess) that day... You be the judge

What are your Pet Peeves with drivers around you?

There are so many but here are a few:

1. Drivers that put on Makeup while in motion... I am a girl and I am all about being beautiful but either do that shit at home or when you get to work. Do Makeup and Drive!

2. Those drivers that squeeze in between you and another car just to be in front of you... AND THERE IS NO ONE BEHIND YOU! This is not Indy 500, You don't need to race me and knock me off the road.

3. Driving while on your cell phone. California requires that you have a hands free device... GET ONE. Everyone in LA has a car that is close to capable of wireless headsets, Sync systems and whatever other gadgets can be added.

Just a few of my thoughts for a Thursday........

Coffee Talk

Morning coffee break essentials | The Sweetest Occasion

So it has been awhile since I have done a Coffee Talk and today I thought I would give it a try and work on some questions of my own.. Today's Topic: Health and Fitness

1. What are you doing to make your life healthier?

Since I have had issues with my Thyroid since I was 15, I am working on ways to eat smarter (Choices and Portion Control) and some Fitness. My weight usually goes all over teh palce because of it and I want to take hold of it.

2. Speaking of Fitness.. How is that going for you?

Right now I am still a little sore from Yoga after god knows how long but it is Awesome... I highly recommend it. I am also talking daily walks and maybe a hike this weekend.

3. What food are your "Bad Foods"?

I am a Sugar Queen so I have cut out all the sweet treats I LOVE. I am also a HUGE fan of Pasta... I believe in my past life I lived in an Italian village and cooked for everyone.

4. What will be your biggest obstacle?

I am a total stress eater and I admit it. If I ever feel any kind of stress, more the chips away from me...

5. What is your Overall Goal?

Its honestly to just be better at eating. I want to be able to eat, be comfortable and be happy.

Coffee Talk

O how I miss the Holiday Red Cups... I wish they would have them all year long!!!

Would you rather have a pen pal or an e-mail pal?

You know with modern technology, email pal is the way to go. I think I have gotten so lazy with the idea of writing that email is the way to go. I do think it is romantic whoever to write to the one you love...

What are you wearing at this exact moment?

T Shirts and Sweats since it is a free day of nothing for now....

When you are sick, how do you handle it?

I have to admit that I am a stubborn sick girl. I don't like to be down so I don't typically sit still. I have lots of juice, soup and hugs from my Husband.

I am inspired......

To be the best me that I can be. I am inspired by my family, friends and love.

Movie you are excited to see this year?

Since the Oscar Nominations were announced today, I would love to see the nominated movies but I am looking forward to Iron Man 3 and Fast and Furious 6!!

Coffee Talk

1st Coffee Talk of 2013!!!! LETS GO!

It's 2013! What will be the first thing you do that is memorable?

Hopefully it will be finding a new job. I really want to get my cool project off the ground so we will see what comes first... Hopefully work 1st.

It's also income tax season...what do you plan on doing with all that $$$?

For the past 2 years I have put mines towards the wedding so this is the 1st year that its kind of free money. I think we are going to put it into savings but I would like to spend a little on a Staycation for Scott and I... Maybe a nice night on the town and a hotel room so we feel like we have gone somewhere....LOL

What are your 2012 pros/cons?

2012 was a great year for me... I loved becoming a wife, all the great moments leading up to it. I did like to say Good Bye to some people but I know they are in a better place.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Looking forward to Family Reunions, Vegas for MIL's Wedding, Our 1st year of marriage and anything else that 2013 has for me.

What was your favorite movie, CD, book, and TV show of 2012?

Movie: The Vow

CD: Adele-21

Book: People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive 2012. The one with Channing Tatum on the cover. I fucking dare you to challenge me that this doesn't count an acceptable "book." (I took this answer from my blogger buddy Christina and I happen to totally agree)

TV Show: Lots of Wedding Shows and anything on Netflix.

Coffee Talk

1. What type of phone do you have?
I have an iPhone after many years with Team Blackberry.. And I have to admit that I LOVE IT!!!

2. Look to your right, what do you see?
Television, Cameron Family Sign and Christmas Decorations

3. List 5 random facts about yourself...
Wow. Okay. Here it goes........
I have a tender heart and find it hard to say No to people but I am getting better at it.
I like for all the doors in the house to be closed... Its my OCD
I am a sucker for love. Love is made for me and for you.
I hate the sounds of Balloons popping and them being filled with helium
I hate milk and breakfast eggs after my pregnancy....

4. What is that one talent you wish you were great at?
I really don't know if there is something I would want to be good at... If I had to choose I would say writing. I would love to write and have people be inspired by my words.

5. Go to Wikipedia.org and hit random article. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. Go to quotationspage.com and click random quotes. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first ...album. Go to weheartit.com and click on “explore”. Seventh picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. Use picmonkey.com to put it all together. Now show us your album :)

Coffee Talk

What are your winter must haves?
Boots, Red Cups from Starbucks, Hot Chocolate, Cozy Fires and All things Red......
What is on your Christmas wish list this year?

I would really like a new necklace for Christmas. Scott got me a locket when we got engaged and I have worn it ever since. The clasp is not connecting like it use to so I need something to switch it out to. I don't think we will be doing alot of shopping since we just had the wedding so I am not expecting too much but love.
What is your favorite holiday coffee/tea/alcoholic beverage?
Dads Holiday Grog... Apple Juice, Brandy, Grand Mariner and Orange... OMG

Top 3 must have holiday desserts?
I'm a Sugar Freak so it does not really matter but the Holidays desserts I always see is Pecan Pie, Mincemeat Cookies and Peach Cobbler... YUMMERS!

What time do you get up to open presents from Santa with your family? Do you clean up right away or do you leave it there in a huge pile until it's the night before trash day?

When we were kids... we would never go to sleep really...LOL. But we would probably get up around 6am.

Now, this might sound a little ghetto but we would burn the wrapping paper in the fireplace when we were little....LOL. My dad would say it was a way to let Santa know that we got the gifts OK but I think he just didn't want to clean it up....LOL.

What is your New Year's resolution?

I have not really thought about it. I guess I would say to live my life to the fullest, enjoy it all and make my mark on the world... and do it all with Wine!

Coffee Talk

How did you meet your partner?
Scott and I met while working together at an internet company. He does not remember seeing me when he came in to interview but I remember seeing him and thinking.. He is so cute. If he gets the job, I will have to be careful... We see how well that worked out.

How did you feel about your partner when you first met them?
I thought that he was handsome of course and when I heard his voice, I was so smitten. He was a gentleman and so nice to me. I could not help but smile at him.... Which is something I didnt generally do with someone I just met.

Where was your first date?
LOL... Well I would say that we kinda had 2 dates. The 1st time I would say was a Happy Hour that Scott organized that was to be for a couple of co-workers that ended up just being us. (I still say he set me up) but we had a great time that night drinking signature drinks and eating French Fries. The "Official" date was a nice dinner at Maggiano's Italian Restaurant which is still one place that we go to today.

Where do you see y'all in 5 years?
I hope that we will have a home and spend time traveling with family and friends. I know we will be happy and still in love.

Show a pic of you and your partner:

Coffee Talk

I thought I would use this photo for this week's Coffee Talk because it is one of the best SNL skits.....EVER. Here is Coffee Talk:

What is the meaning behind your blog name?

The meaning is quite simple I guess than most names that I have seen... It Chronicles the life of me as a Cameron which is pretty awesome so far I might add.....

How long have you been blogging? What made you start?

I originally started blogging on my personal blog a few years ago but I started the Wedding blog June 2011 as a way for me to talk about my wedding without boring the hell out of my friends with topics like Wedding White, Cakes and Flowers. I felt it was a great outlet for me to write more and be free with how I felt during the planning process. Now that it has converted over to the Chronicles, it even more fun because I can talk about everything now and still hold on to wedding stuff.

What is your blog generally about?

Right now I am wedding focused because I don't want to let the feeling of being a Bride go just yet but I'm sure it will branch off to many things that are near and dear like Pinterest, Photography and Family.

Do you have any funny blogs you would like to share?

My blogger soulmate is Christina over at Diary of a Blonde Newlywed. I have to admit that I love her style, her energy and her blogs crack me up. It makes me feel good to know that someone out there is just like me in many ways....
What are your hopes for your blog?

To reach people and let my voice and thoughts be heard. To know that there might be a bride or 2 out there that can relate to what I have gone thought and hear them say, Thanks for that advice or That was so helpful, I had no idea I had to do that. I hope a small part of the world will one day know about me and I get to make my mark.

Coffee Talk

What is your worst habit?

I think people would say that my worse habbit is my unability to say no or hurt someone's feelings. My filter has changed as I have gotten older but I do know that I take on alot of things from time to time and I have to learn to put myself first.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Crazy Drivers.... It is a given when you live in Los Angeles but that does not mean they annoy me any less. I have to deal with it but I can express how I hate those that do everything from makeup at 60mph, Those who dont use blinkers and the ones that talk on the phone with NO EAR PIECE!
What is annoying you right this very minute?

People that are coming into work knowing they are sick... leave your germs at home!!!

How do you relieve stress?

Wine, Time with my Family and Friends, Cleaning (Yeah I know Im weird that way) and did I mention Wine??

What truly makes you happy?

Scott, Jacelyn, Isaiah, Family, Friends, Food and you guessed it.....Wine.

Coffee Talk

When is your birthday? How old will you be? What is your sign?My birthday is April 28th. I share a birthday with Jessica Alba, Jay Leno and Bobby Deen... Some cool peeps.  I will be 34 ... and IM STILL SEXY!  My sign is Taurus, and yes I am a little bullheaded but its me so you gotta love me.

What is the BEST birthday gift you've ever received? What's the WORST?
The best gift.. Hmmm. I have to admit that I had some good ones here in life but my Husband got me a Wii for my birthday and I LOVE IT. Michael Jackson and I get our groove on every once in awhile and it was one of the 1st gifts he bought me so its special..

The worse gift.. I used bottle of Jean Nate... Needless to say I was less a boyfriend that year. LOL

Do you like having birthday parties for yourself? What about surprise birthday parties?
I am usually the party organizer for other people so it is hard for me to have a party for myself. Scott did surprise me with a Foodie Crawl for my birthday one year and I have to give it to him, he surprised me and it was so much fun.
What is your dream birthday bash?
I never really thought about it... I would love to do something for my 35th but I am not sure what yet. Vegas is always cool.... maybe hit the strip and gorge it out for 35. We will see!

What is your favorite kind of birthday cake?
I have to agree with my Bridal Buddy Christi on this one.....The Oreo Cookie Ice Cream Cake. I have taken one down alone (Over a couple of days of course) and let me tell you... It was all worth it.

What is on your birthday wishlist?
I can show you better than I can tell you.....
